From humble beginnings and over 30 years ago, Tassal is now a key Australian seafood producer and a major producer of sustainable Atlantic salmon.
With the purchase of the first fertilised Atlantic Salmon eggs from a mainland hatchery in 1984, Tasmania’s salmon farming industry began. The salmon that Tassal produces is Tasmanian-grown Atlantic Salmon (Salmo salar) with original bloodlines being imported from Nova Scotia, Canada during the 1960s.
The focus on quality and sustainability has been the foundation of Tassal’s pioneering reputation within the industry.

Tassal Tasmanian salmon take 3 years to grow with 1.5 years in fresh water and the remaining 1.5 years spent living in the sea.
