5 Food Trends That Will Change The Way You Do Business

Every industry is affected by trends, and the food industry is certainly not excluded. In fact, food trends happen quite frequently, and it’s crucial for businesses to stay alert for growth and change opportunities.

Trends come and go, but some trends can become a new way of doing things, this is why it’s important for businesses to take notice.

Here are five food trends that will change your business

Grazing platters instead of meals

Grazing platters or ‘Tapas’ have become a popular way for patrons to eat with meal times often blurred throughout the day. Tapas also allow each person to taste a little of everything and builds on the essence of using meal times as a sharing experience thus, potentially stretching out booking times to cater for group bookings.

Eating out can also be an expensive event for some, so ordering a few smaller plates of food can help a patron stick to their eating out budget. So think healthier options that are low in sugar but high in protein, so they are filling.

Sophisticated drinks, without the alcohol

People are becoming more conscious of the calories in alcoholic drinks, and this is changing the drinking habits of many. Sophisticated juices and mocktails with herbal accents are becoming highly popular due to their added health benefits. Tumeric is one herb that has been in the spotlight for its anti-inflammatory properties and is known as a strong antioxidant.

Visually appealing commercial cooking appliances

More restaurants are becoming open kitchens where patrons can see all the action. Visually appealing commercial cooking appliances with clean lines and sleek touchscreens, will, therefore, be sought to encourage viewing in the back of the restaurant.

The dining experience

No longer does it just come down to the food that is served within four walls, consumers are after the whole dining experience; it’s has to be intimate and beautiful. But not everyone is akin to designing beautiful restaurant and café spaces which is why there are such experts as restaurant consultants who can help you with everything from designing your menu to the layout of your dining space.

Sustainably sourced foods

Food culture has certainly changed when it comes to where food is sourced and how it’s grown. Consumers are now more conscious of supporting local food growers and conscious of the sustainability practices involved with the food that goes on their plate. This trend will continue to have a huge effect on how restaurants set their menu and how their food is served.

Like any business, trends in the food service industry are important to recognise. While they will change the way you do business, they will also hopefully see you the rewards because you took an opportunity to change and meet the food trends.
